So I’ve been working on this video for this awesome band The Majestic Twelve for a couple months, in between a redesign, simplification and new animatic for the Condeleeza Check My Posse video, I’ve been swamped with my current day job as a senior animator and producing and supervising VFX on a upcoming sci-fi flick which has made me neglect this bad boy way too much so I’ve decided to re-dedicate myself to finishing this video up. In the meantime, check out this super old pre-vis clip for one of the many awesome parts of the song.

The latest site which I dig, keepvid.com, it let’s you download any current youtube video as mp4’s which you can later convert to .mov’s or whatever else you like for easy frame by framing hotness. Awesome tool for animators given assignments on the fly, check it out: www.keepvid.com.

So three pals of mine are getting hitched (poor bastards) so of course, what better reason to go paintballing and get shit faced drunk? So I haven’t heard of these guys but apparently they’re big, have a show on IFC and their first season just came out on DVD as well, watch this sketch and see why. Solid. Greasy dirty bad girl solid…

In all honesty though I’ve never been a fan of anime so I can’t really blame the visuals. I mean seriously, tell me you don’t find the obligatory 10 minute pan of a city (or forest) painting while some baratone voice tries to explain why shits happening annoying? Alright, so I could go into why I love this fucking guys work so much but really, what could I possibly describe in words that would equal the sheer beauty of his work. A lot of people seem to describe this work as ‘low brow” though I don’t quite understand that distinction. If you’ve been fortunate to find any of Mr. Barr’s work online and picked up his sketchbook (try Amazon), you can see this guy can draw. He is a draftsman. The fact that he chooses to draw and paint such whimsical and engaging works is simply another testament to not only his skill and technique but his dedication to what a true artist stands for. Check out his work and be shock and awed.

Not too long ago, there was a post over on the ol’ Cartoon Brew regarding American Dog, aka Bolt, you know, that film that Chris Sanders, the creator of Lilo & Stitch was working on. Sanders style, which I love, always seems to channel Freddie Moore to me. His drawings always carry that softness and that rare and essential factor, appeal.

So yeah, as you can see it’s been a while since I posted, apologies for that, for those interested here’s a quick recap; I locked down the blog setup, got some freelance gig, tried and failed to negotiate some other freelance cheese ball film gig, got another car, began a collaboration with two separate artists on two separate films, redesigned the Condoleezza characters, played a couple rounds of poker, winning some but losing most, turned 27 and oh yeah, I also started my new job at an awesome game studio in Culver City as a senior animator during a crunch, so yeah, busy.

Man, so it looks like the blog is finally up and running. Big thank you to Jai from blogohblog.com for helping out with wordpress. I’ve “reposted” some old posts, hence the lack of comments. Yeah  yeah, excuses, excuses, I know.

I’ve also gone ahead and set up some shirts for sale and a few flicks/clips to peruse but have yet to pop up the comics and a couple flash skits I have brewing with some of my friends. Hopefully that’ll happen by the end of January.

“Celebrity” Rehab the show? Are you kidding me? How sick is this? What deprived, demented, awful, sexually frustrated soul would want to do this? Fuck this show! This show is just plain apple pie wrong. Addiction is a serious problem and rehabs are a serious solution.

So I recently rented a couple films since I had four glorious days off with my family, thanks to the god given fact that I don’t work a real job, with sweat and grit and all those things a man longs to be, imposing and harsh, rough around the edges and sharper in between, you know, super gay.

Anyway’s, so one of the films was the latest Die Hard installment, “Live Free or Die Hard” which I enjoyed, sure it was as meaningful or memorable as last nights half drunken piss but just like all number ones, they have their moments so I won’t knock it. It was well crafted and everyone involved should be credited with participating in an entertaining flick which I’ve watched 3 times now. I particularly enjoyed the villain even for his lack of screen time. Just a quick question though, was Kevin Smith necessary? I mean, don’t get me wrong, he seems personable and I wouldn’t kick him out of bed, not cause I could do better, because I can, it’s just that he’s way fucking bigger than me, he’d probably kick my ass then rape it. Seriously though, Kevin Smith?

The other films I rented where “Hot Rod”, “God Grew Tired of Us”, “Oceans Thirteen”, “El Cantante” (ugh, I know…) and “The Namesake”, most where shamefully awful, and yes, they’re the ones you would expect.

You have to buy the Superbad 2 disc dvd. Like now. Apatow and friends are pretty awesome so you buy now. Oh, and don’t go off the featurette that they feature on the amazon.com website, that “Music Of” shit is neat and all but also about 10 minutes too long but whatever, not everything can be Vagtastic.

Interesting thing, McLovin was underage at the time of the shoot so penis drawings where off limit, weird.

This is why I pray that one day man will learn to leave the rocking out to the proffesionally lit, airbrushed, focus group tested, cookie cutouts that the mass media is more than happy to provide us with.

So I recently had the opportunity to pitch a show idea to small studio and it was a blast. I usually hear people complain about pitching shows and concepts and all that jazz but I have to admit that for my first time, my pitch de-flowering was definitely the knees bees.

So as you’ve probably deduced, the shows called Modern Science. I’ve written the pilot episode and designed the main characters so whether they decide to develop it further or not, it’ll get made. Right now the goals are to polish off the characters, get some scratch dialogue recorded for 1st pass pencil tests then hopefully move on to getting a rough animatic type pass done before New Years.

Also, I’ll try and reload some animations and comics this weekend, in the meantime, be sure to scope out the clothed section.

I’m sitting here watching Adult Swim and seeing a ton of promos for non-animated shows and pondering whether 5 years down the road the Cartoon Network will start having bullshit spin off networks like MTV has MTV2 and MTVtres (that’s MTV3 for our more anglo friends) that supposedly attempt to play what MTV1 is supposed to play in the first fucking place.

Now, no one’s arguing that MTV plays good music now or has ever played good music but at least it was music right? And seriously, what ass doesn’t like Nirvana?

I don’t know, maybe this all stems from my deep seeded confusion (slightly smoldering hatred) of Saul of the Mole Men which inspired this rant. I seriously don’t fucking get this show. Maybe I’m not old enough to have an affinity for the classically shitty shows it’s based on or a supposed homage to but I would seriously, genuinely appreciate someone explaining why this show is entertaining? I’m not even shooting for some logic behind why it’s possibly good. Or on Cartoon Network. Am I as a viewer supposed to get a kick out of the low rent sets and awful compositing? The horrendous costumes? The homoerotic undertones? I don’t know, any help would, well… help. On the upside, I am a fan of Fosters which the creator of SotMM, Craig Lewis, has written for. Until I get an answer, I guess I’ll just stick with the insanely awesome and just plain pretty Venture Brothers.

Personally, my favorite MTV spin off network is the new one, MTVD. It’s fucking great, it plays nothing but rap videos and sexually confusing reality shows. What, you haven’t caught that one? Also, I wonder if MTV1 vj’s look down on MTV2 vj’s. How’s that pyramid of broken dreams and misguided sexual favors function?
